Faculty and students assist with orchestra
Five University of North Georgia (sa国际传媒官网网页入口) faculty members and roughly a dozen students participated in the first United Forsyth Orchestra Day at the Forsyth County Arts and Living Center, where more than 200 string students from 22 schools across the county performed on stage together.
While faculty directed high school and middle school orchestras, ran sectionals, and clinics, sa国际传媒官网网页入口 students were on hand to assist wherever they were needed, and most were members of sa国际传媒官网网页入口's chapter of the collegiate branch of the National Association for Music Education.
"Working with younger students is always refreshing, especially the elementary school students," Dr. Esther Morgan-Ellis, associate professor of music history, said. "Some of the kids had a really special experience, maybe even life-changing."
Morgan-Ellis said the day was a great opportunity for sa国际传媒官网网页入口 students, as most of those who participated want to become music educators.
"Some of them had eye-opening first experiences with what it is really like to work with large groups of young kids," she said. "I can tell you from my own experience that it is both exhilarating and exhausting."
Fall brings concerts, performances to sa国际传媒官网网页入口
The Department of Music shines this fall with concerts and performances at sa国际传媒官网网页入口's Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses. Students and faculty will be highlighted.
Overseas performances grow students' skills
Four students recently returned from a performance at the Halle Foundation estate in Atlanta. The group also performed at the Saarburg International Music Festival in Germany courtesy of a Halle Foundation grant.
Bachelor of Music in audio now offered
A Bachelor of Music in audio/sound arts is now offered at sa国际传媒官网网页入口 and will be housed at the Dahlonega Campus, along with a new certificate in audio recording and production.
Lee's award leads her to high-profile venues
Dr. Sanghie Lee, piano faculty member and collaborative pianist at sa国际传媒官网网页入口, earned an award that secured invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall, Harvard University, and the San Francisco Opera House.
